Santa Claus is Comin' to Town

Obviously Kayda doesn't listen to the advice in the song "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" . You know the better watch out, you better not cry! She hasn't quite figured out that she needs to schmooze Santa. These are pictures from last year and the repeat this year. Sorry Santa please still leave Kayda some presents
.

Winter Wonderland

The only good part about cold weather is the snow (And only to play in!) We woke up this morning with some snow on the ground so we decided to go sledding. Since most of the sledders were in school we have fresh snow and no competition for the hill. Kayda seemed to be more interested in eating the snow than sledding this year. Jaden tried to teach her how to make a snow angel. She didn't quite get the concept but oh well we had a fun snow day anyway!

REjects

We are getting ready to send out Christmas cards. We attempted taking pictures. I love the rejects so I am going to post them. You will have to wait for the winner picture in the form of a Christmas card. Enjoy! p.s. If you are reading this and want a Christmas card (and I don't have your address - send it :)

I Am bringing it Back!!

Sometime after the 80's my sister gave me her crimper. It rested for a few years and then it got fired up when I went to college. Despite my crimping parties and debuting them at dances or ward parties the fad never quite made it's return that I had hoped. (I have tons of pictures of participating roomates and friends including Steve who joined in only after convincing him it uncrimps with mere washing of the hair) After my unsuccessful attempts the crimper got put back in the closet.(sorry no pictures of college years - too lazy to scan tonight)

But during Halloween my sister Maria(the one who gave me the crimper) decided to make her girls be "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" with Cat in the Hat. She needed a wild hairdo for the costume and TaDa! the crimper came out.

Well the other night I was making dinner when Jaden announced that our daughter had found the crimper AND plugged it in. (she likes to pull out the child safety plugs). Jaden said it was rather amusing seeing her try to crimp her hair herself but decided to jump in before she got burned. She sat completely still as he crimped her hair. So maybe I didn't suceed with bringing crimping back in my generation but maybe the next!!

Pre-Thanksgiving

SO before Thanksgiving my family had a family home evening together with several relatives to celebrate my Payne grandparents' 65th anniversary. Maren even flew in to join the festivities. I feel so thankful for the heritage that I have and great family members.

Before the program(another Mom production) we had dinner together and I got this picture of the kid table:

It's funny how when you are a kid you can't wait to sit at the adult table and the older you get you long to be at the kid table(it's way funner). And even crazier still is that my grandparents sat together in Primary and probably never imagined sitting together many years later as eternal companions.

One of the highlights was the special appearance of the Grinch himself. (well not really-meaning not really the Grinch) Even with my dad in the costume that couldn't fool me. Ironically my dad is the exact opposite of what the Grinch represents. He is so giving and caring to everyone. He is always dedicated to his family, his students and his ward members. Thanks Dad for not really being a Grinch!

6 things

Here goes for Laura tagging me. This is supposed to be 6 unique/weird things about me. Though there are plenty -my list is more like things that I can't change about myself even when I have tried.
1. I am a night- owl. I have all my life. I remember when I was younger, my mom tucking me in and later me turning on the light to do a puzzle or finish a book. In high school I read a lot at night or talked to Paul until the wee hours. In college even when I worked at 4:00 in the morning I couldn't go to bed until I finished my homework AND got some play time in. (and now I have a night owl child-I know and it is all my fault.)
2. I hate white socks. Why? I don't know. I rarely where them, mostly when I exercise and that is about it. I usually have socks to match the season. I am a classic candidate for what not to wear.
3. I know a lot of random songs. I think this comes from working at a care center and adult day care (early 1900's sing-a-long songs), my grandpa's radio in the barn (classical and oldies), watching musicals with my grandma, my grandpa's 8-tracks (why I love Pink Panther), my mom's "Rainbow Connection", my sisters' collection of records (good 70s&early 80s music),Paul listening to Casey Kasem's top 20 count down every week, the music part of Aca Dec, music classes at BYU, clogging (my country that I know), and waking up to Mormom Tabernacle every Sunday. Sorry Jaden- I know it's like living in a real musical.
4. I usually remember peoples' last names better than there first names. I wonder if that comes from church up bringing. ???
5. I usually have at least one eye open during prayers. This I have really tried to change. I think growing up in a big family I never wanted to miss out on any of the action, including prayer time.
6. I like hanging my shirts in order of color. It starts with the rainbow colors and then brown, white, black. I never realized how bad it was until I got married and Jaden tried to hang my shirts up.

Make It Work

Okay this is the lamest thing to blog about, but I have one show that I really like to watch-Project Runway! The fourth season starts tonight! I like the crazy things they make them do like make dresses from stuff at a floral shop, recycling plant, and the clothes they are wearing. I guess I just like the creativity that goes on. So watch what happens-Project Runway begins.

Halloween

This Halloween I got Jaden to dress up in something other than his scrubs. Yeah!! So we were the family from down under. It is not much of a costume but Jaden was the crocodile hunter, me-an alligator (not a frog with teeth) and Kayda the Kangaroo or Kaydaroo as some people called her. We went to the stake party and had the back of our truck ready for the trunk or treat but the carnival, dinner, costume parade and magic show all went over time so we had to skip out before it happened since we were going to valley for Jaden's clinicals. We did make it to the end of Duane's "Christmas" party (he was dressed up as Buddy on "Elf" and Lari was Jovie). So it was a fun Halloween. We just need a post-Halloween party to get rid of our candy or go reverse trick-or-treating (knock on people's doors and give them the candy).

Homage to my Mom

As it approaches Halloween I always think of my mom. She hates it! As much as I love my mom and try to be like her, that is one thing that we definately do not have in common. I love Halloween! So before it approaches Halloween this is my homage to mom. To start out, that is the real reason I never pierced my ears. I thought it was cool that my mom never had pierced her ears so I decided I wouldn't do it either. Although this is one of the only things I was able to completely do as she did, she did put in many hours of teaching me how to cook and sew (much to her attempts I am still trying to catch up to her caliber of doing those tasks). One of my biggest compliments was when the softball assistant said that she was at a Young Womens Leader Training and said that the presenter kept reminding her of someone and all of the sudden thought "That has got to be Kit's mom!" (okay so maybe not a compliment to my mom) But I love how fun and energetic she is. So as the day of Halloween approaches sorry mom but your cooking skills you taught me were used to make pumpkin and black cat sugar cookies and the sewing skills to make costumes. But I still love you! You're the best (and expect some Halloween pictures)!

Stories or Comments of the Year

The year is not yet over and there are many more beside these ones but here are some of my favorite stories/comments of the year:

* Griffin(4 at the time) and Cherise(15 at the time) discussing Jaden going to school.
Griffin: Does Jaden have a mom and dad?
Cherise:Yes ????
Griffin: Cause he is still a kid. (pause) He's Kayda's dad, but he's still a kid.

*My dad giving a baptism interview to an 8 year old girl in Joseph City

Dad: Have you ever used tobacco?
Girl: Yes.

Perplexed, my dad talked to her parents later and found out why she answered yes. This is how she heard the question.

Dad: Have you ever used the back hoe?
Girl: Yes

*Paul, John, Braden and I discussing Paul moving from Buffalo to England. Note: Buffalo is where the General Mills factory is.

Paul: You know, one thing I am going to miss about Buffalo is when I walk outside and smell Lucky Charms.

10 Year Reunion

This past weekend was my 10 year reunion. It was fun. It really made me feel grateful that I grew up in such a fun small town and that I had some great friends! So here are some of the pictures. And thank goodness for good husbands who took care of the kids while we talked to everybody and sisters so we could go out without Kayda.

Hair Cut!!

(the before mugshot- Doesn't she look excited? )

This one is for Ally. Yes I know that my child has been sporting a mullet for awhile. It is one of those things you mean to do but you can always find something better to do. (well not really better just less scary) So I decided to cut Kayda's hair. It is not the most glamorous of haircuts but she no longer has a mullet.

Random

I haven't blogged in forever so I figured I would just throw this out there. Anyone who really knows me, knows that I am pretty much -- random. So here are some random facts you may or may not know about me.
1. Strictly Ballroom is my favorite movie (why-it is funnier everytime)
2. I love old movies (Gene Kelly and old scary movies thanks to Grandma Hunt genes)
3. Christine Lavin is still one of my favorite singers.
4. I am slightly offended that my husband isn't as into recycling and energy conservation as I am.
5. I hope that all my kids are as cute as Kayda. I love her funny personality.
6. Despite popular belief most pineapple decor in our house was purchased by someone else other than myself.(love it)
7. I never was good at spelling.(I guess from blogging that becomes more obvious to all you readers).
8. I liked all of the jobs that I have had, even changing toilet paper rolls. This is thanks to all the cool people I have been blessed to work with.
9. I hate when people crack their knuckles.
10. I will probably always be --- random.

3 Peas in a Pod

So the other day we had the Hancocks over and Kayda loves Claire and will do anything that she does. The girls were playing and next thing we know there are no toys in the toy box and all the girls are in it. It was one of those moments when you think "Why have toys when you have a toy box?" How fun to have girl cousins!

Before and After

Okay so I tried to blog this a couple days ago and it completely erased. So now days later I am trying again. This is Kayda's room. I know, nothing fancy BUT you have to admit it is better than the stenciled angels and the ballerina bear border. (okay the lighting is terrible on the before picture but you get the point that it is ugly).

Jones Wedding

Last weekend we went to Jaden's parents' house for his sister Shaelene's wedding. It is a small world because she ended up marrying my roomate of 4 years (kari)s cousin Dave. Kayda's favorite part of the whole evening was following Shaelene's dress. She loved it! So we had to try to keep her out of ALL of the pictures. Finally she found the play car and was distracted enough to let Shae do her thing for awhile.
Jaden of course helped put things together and I have to show off his floral arranging skills.
Way to go Dave and Shae!

'Fun' in Dsyfunctional

Once my sisters sent a card to my mom that said "Let's put the fun back in dsyfunctional" We all thought it was hilarious. I love my family! They each have incredibly different personalities and talents. Other than our looks, we are way different. This was a picture from a family reunion this summer. I love big family pictures because there is always some characters that come out. (if you are counting Paul is the one missing-miss you) I love my family!!

Memories

Since my 10 year reunion is coming up quite quickly I have been thinking about what has happened in the last 10 years. For most of you this will be blah, blah, blah. But this is the only place that I have been fairly diligent at putting stuff down that I have been thinking about. Many of these people are long gone but they have affected my life and I truly have them in my heart (and now on my blog). So here goes my tales and adventures from the first summer of college. So the first dorm that I lived in was called Horne Hall. (From the way that is spelled you can all figure out what people always called it.) Anyway, I had 4 other roomates. My room-roomate was Marnell. She was going into teaching and almost done. Why she lived in the dorms still?I don't know. What I remember is she would always ask what time I went to bed. Like once when I went to bed at 4 she thought I was getting up until she got up and realized I was still in bed. Liz was probably my favorite. She wore cool shoes. We took American Heritage together. We sat by a guy named Dave. Poor guy. One day when he fell asleep in class we drew pictures on his cheek. He didn't even wake up! I think he started to like Liz because he started to wear cologne and would save a seat for us. So here is the real American Heritage story. One day after walking back from taking our first test me and Liz were real quiet. I asked her what she got and she wouldn't tell me. Then she asked me and I wouldn't tell her. Finally I convinced her I did bad enough that she could tell me. She said"I got a 47." I started to laugh and she was getting mad. Then I said," No, I'm not laughing at you I got a 43." We laughed about it all the way home. We passed the class. Britt was my roomate from Minnesota "dooncha knooow?" She was mean just like me. We were always trying to get our roomate to cut her hair. Every day we asked her when she would cut it. We made fun of her furry animals on her bed. We also stared at her to make her nervous (which she would get very easily). But Mary was funny. Even when she wasn't she would laugh at her own jokes. (and a couple semesters later she cut her hair- it was cute). Oh my other roomate Stephanie was engaged so we never saw her. Okay I am almost done. My neighbor Tiffany always make me play "Puff the magic dragon" for her on guitar since that was one of the songs I could play from guitar class. Bec was one of my favorite people ever from the summer. We won the ice cream eating contest. We swam in the MOA pond in finals week. We stayed up for 35 hours after finals were over. (Our friend won with 48). Ah, college days.

Self-induced Bondage

Have you ever seen a mother in bondage? Some of it is self-induced. Well I am one of those mothers. They are easy to spot- the ones with the big ol shopping carts at the store. There are only 2 places that I go here, Home Depot and Safeway, and they both have the car shopping carts. It all started when Kayda saw one and looked at me and uttered her best "please" which was more like "pllth". But it was cute and hard to resist. But now I can't walk past the BIG shopping carts anymore, with the cute finger pointing at it and the "please" that follows it- I am officially in motherhood bondage.
P.S. I had to return the candy that Kayda has. She snitched it while I was putting groceries at the check-out. (she is starting young)

An attempt

Since my 10 year reunion is coming up we (or I ) decided to try to take a more recent family picture (to send in). I ended up picking, not the one that I look the best, but the one where Kayda is looking at the camera and kind of smiling. The first picture is to illustrate how fun Kayda was being. It was actually fun. And good thing Katie likes to be paid by a hot fudge sundae.

Up to the Wazzoo

We have been doing so many projects that Kayda feels like that she needs to help. So the other day I decided to let her help. I gave her a paint brush and she was in helping. I am bummed that I didn't get a picture of her pulling off wall paper(that is all I have been doing for weeks now it feels like). Poor kid won't know what a normal childhood is.
